Do I need my business address on every single webpage?

Because I'm being advised to do so

Hi everyone,
Im having my website re-done. It'll look the same but a lot of the links are being changed and silo'd as well as moving from CMS to Wordpress.

I've a professional advising on the link and site structure and all is well in this regard yet they are very strongly advising to have my home address in the footer of every single webpage.

Now for me that is a problem because while I'm sure it helps Google to work out where I'm located I'm a wedding photographer who works globally. I never, ever shoot weddings in my home town, which is on the coast. Everything I shoot is usually a good 40 miles away from me.

My worry in making this suggested change is that potential clients will shy away from contacting me because in their eyes I'm too far away to be practical.

Practical experience backs this up too. I was in London speaking to potential clients and they all took a step back when I told them where I was from, (Brighton)...which is only 45 minutes away but to them it seemed too many miles to be practical.

Further to this, nobody high up in the big G has their address like that either so I'm not saying the advice is bad, but I'm questioning how important it is. What do you think?

Thanks for any input offered!

I agree with you, not with the professional :-) I would include the address on the contact or company page, but not prominently throughout the site. People who need your address will be able to find it, and you won't scare off potential customers. Whether you get any ranking benefits from including an address, it's hard to say. I certainly wouldn't "strongly advise" to include it on every page unless it was a local business where people actually need the address (e.g. a store).

What was the reasoning of having the address on every page?

Instead of your address, put the areas you serve so both potential clients and the search engines will know.

Address on every page! That's just crazy.

Making contact details difficult to find is not so good as that takes away credibility, however, you mentioned Brighton, and there are some legal requirements of an address, registered office, any vat numbers and any company numbers in the UK. That only needs to be on one page, usually the contact page.
Apart from selling locally, I do not know of any area where an address on every page is compulsory, or even of any value from a user point of view.

Geo meta tags are a must for local search.

I can't think of any good reason to have your home or business address displayed on every page. You can have a "Contact me" or "Get in touch" link in the page footers, but there is no need to have the footer contain the full address.

Regarding Gooogle, make sure you use meta data to present your business details. That will do a lot more good for you that re-posting your address as text on every page.

Ask your expert to explain in detail why he wants the address on every page?

Mack.
