Open Source Content

I hear the term Open Source in reference to software and scripts. Without dropping url’s all over the place, I’m curious if anyone has any experience on Open Source Content or the collaboration of content creation? It doesn’t appear we’ve given this particular topic any discussion.

Where’s Chiyo? Do you have knowledge of this? Anyone else?

I'd say half the users actually use the internet itself as open source content, no matter how many copyright notices you put on it.

The only 'Open Source Content' I'm aware of are the sites which offer news for further distribution within other sites. They ask you to provide them a link, but don't demand it.

I'm not aware of the term. If it means developing content that can be used by all would that lead to a lot of similar/duplicate pages all over the place?

Seeing on the public web, content only has to be published in one place,to be read Im not sure I understand the question paynt!

I know we discussed (with Marcia) at one stage the practice of people providing the right to republish artiles with a link back to them etc. Then of course there is the thousands of sites that syndicate their headlines via RSS/Js/XML/Moreover etc (with a link back to their page for each headline). Is either what you mean?

The phrase isn't "Open Source Content", it's just "Open Content". It's content you're allowed to reuse and alter to your heart's content, provided an Open Content attribution is left on the derivative material.

As far as radical movements go, Open Content isn't as well-known (or well-developed as Open Source software), but it exists:

and

[dmoz.org...]

are places to start.

It's not just text, either. There's a separate

Yeah, opencontent is Interesting...!

There is something called " COPYLEFT " .. the opposite of copyright...

There is quite a bit of info online..hit a search on google for copyleft...infact..one of my sites( the site in my profile ) has a copyleft policy on it...!

I'll sure post back some links on copyleft...if it is not against the rules ..!

Well look at that ideavirus, never heard of it and thanks for pointing it out. I'm checking out Google now and I see there are quite a few sites on the subject. Nice find and a new twist to think about.

I like fringe stuff you know and this has that ‘on the edge’ feel to it. Not so mainstream that it comes up in conversation with even the geekiest among us. Cool.
