I have been annoyed with the poor translation of Google into Danish for a while, so I tried to find out who did it. I was quite shocked to find that it is the users who translate it on a volunteer basis!

[services.google.com...]

(I hope posting this URL is okay, otherwise, sorry!)

That just can't be right. Google can't both sell services like Ad Sense etc and and at the same time use volunteers for their translations. I mean, it's not the ODP we're talking about.

Any comments? Did any of you know about this?

Neddless to say I signed up immediately and corrected a few flaws, I just couldn't help it...

I think it's more fine tuning on their translator than anything else.

I could be wrong....;)

I hope you're right! I translated two sentences and they went live immediately whereas two edits that I did of existing translations seem to be pending.

So why then should Google pay for professional services like everybody else?

  1. Quality
  2. Quality

Nothing worse than bad translation. Always gives me the impression the company doesn't care....

heini,

Because the first thing I noticed was that the translation was bad, and then that Google use (free) volunteers to translate.
