Fair Use of material from other Websites

In my links page I have copied a pic from the page I am linking to. The images is just thumbnail of the original. Is that fair use.

Why don't you ask the website owners?

I will do that. But with some of these big sites it impossible to communicate with them.

Actually I wouldn't think that they would have any problem with this. I would not have a problem with any website using an image of mine to link back to me.

I do this with links myself and I have never had any complaints.

I believe that the use of thumbnails is considered Fair Use. This is how search engines are able to serve up copyrighted images to all and sundry.
