How much are you cranking out?

I'm in a content-generating mood.

Over the past two weeks I've cranked out about 3,000 words a day of keyword-rich articles for various sites. This is taking me about 4 hours a day ... I've been writing all of this content in one- or two-hour chunks at a time.

Is this decent output, or am I slacking?

About half the time I think I'm kicking butt, and the other half I start to think, "Is that all I've cranked out? Ugh! Back to work!"

>slacking? <

Uh, no.

What you are reading is what I cranked out so far this week. I best be getting to work.

I need a break, though. I think I'm tapped out for content for at least a few weeks.

When it's there - go for it. Very few writers can keep up a constant steady stream of high production. I used to manage the writers for a TV series. They would write up a storm the last two days before the deadlines - and suffer writer's block for the 2 weeks prior!

I can usually write content for hours on end, everyday for several weeks - and actually enjoy every second of it :) Then after a few weeks of this, I get burned out and absolutely sick to death of whatever the topic happens to be. Then I have to switch to something completely different, such as starting work on a new site design or writing content on a subject at the opposite end of the spectrum. Regardless, I have to give that orginal subject a breather for a couple of weeks. But this breather also gives me a fresh perspective just in time for the edits!

One good thing is I work for myself, so I don't have a boss breathing down my neck and I can set my own schedule ;) Second good thing is I try to get it all done in those several weeks before I get to the point where I wish I never see another article on that particular subject ever again!

Right now I am just starting my content writing frenzy again, so I should be approaching my "absolutely sick to death of this subject" just in time for my nice trip to London :)

Get off your butt slacker...

Geesh - I'm envious. If I had the time and didn't have to do research I might accomplish half as much. I'd say you've got a good pace but be careful of burn-out. Taking a two week break is not a bad idea. Go someplace different and get some fresh ideas from places not even remotely associated with where you'd expect to find them.

Now get back to work.

You're even asking if you're slacking? If you're slacking, then what do you call people like me who wants to write a lot of content but never gets it done? :)

You deserve a pat on the back.

We use about 20 journalists and copyrighters who churn out about 500 words per hour on average.
