I have a website where I write opinion and commentary pieces on Mixed Martial Arts. I've made all the graphics on the site myself but don't have any photos because I don't know how to go about getting the right to publish them. I'd like to have access to photos of fighters, press conferences, and events. Where can I go to buy rights to use such photos?

Also, try contacting the governing bodies for the specific martial arts you're interested in. They should be able to help you.

You'll probably find that there are at least one or two photographers dedicated to these areas, possibly through being hired by the organising bodies themselves.

If you can source photo's via the organising bodies, it'll also put you in a situation where they become familiar with what you do (if they don't already), which, of course, is always useful.

It may well afford you the opportunity to develop working relationships with the photographers themselves. They, I'm certain, would welcome any new outlets for their work.

What do you mean by governing bodies? Organizations like the UFC or are you talking about the state athletic commissions?

Yup, I do mean organisations like the UFC. Contact the Press/Media departments of the relevant bodies, explain what you want and why you want it.

They should then tell you what you need to do in order to get the images you want.

At the same time, ask to be added to their press/media mailing lists so that you get advance notice of any and all future news and events stories.
