conversion is 1% with NO testimonials - good or just OK?

Ok the sales letter is up, the product is an ebook for 39.95 and the conversion is 1% with NO testimonials and stickily google adwords traffic. Is that good or is that average? If not good what would be a *great* conversion rate (keeping mind there are no testimonials yet?

1% is pretty low. It does depend on your pricing structure, but generally 3% is as low as you would want to go.
