What has prevented you from development

When i first started my site, i had planned on just making a directory.
Because there were only a few sites that had the subjects of interest i listed all i could, linking many times to each site from a few pages.

As time went on i learned about scrapers and thought OMG am i a scraper.
I was making a legitimate useful site for quick referencing so i figured
not. Since then i have developed in different ways trying to expand, but faster than i could keep up with. (A bit dollar signs for eyes syndrome after i tried Adsense) I wasn't making enough to live on from the site and worked part time or full time throughout the last couple years.
Between working other projects, limitated skills as a webdesigner, technicalities and other bad luck I have not had the time to add fresh content thus rankings drop.
When i did have time it seemed fresh content did the reverse and i knew a lot of webmasters felt the same, if its doing good you dont wan t to mess with it.
As i look back i can list some of the main difficulties.(aside from a drinking problem that I believe had minimal effect)

Clients
Want everything to go poof , to get a website.
Trying to get copy or images from a client can be like pulling teeth
and wasted hours phone tagging that you cant bill for etc etc.

Hosting services
I never used to have to update CIRCA info, it was all taken care of by host CS.

ISP
Billing for accounts that wree closed.
Choking upload speeds making it imposssible to upload large files hence no new features.
DOS attacks network wide that large ISPs cant seem to prevent.

WEB 2.0 and the plugin content revolution (ie) hotlinking sites have flourished- Google MSLIVE And Yahoo couldnt tell a hot link site from a site hosting its own files which you would think had more relevence

Frames
Should never have started out with them, some benefits but they seed many serp probs.

LOGs
Studying daily logs
Blocking bad bots and scrapers

Neighbors
Choking on fumes made by brutal cooking , pounding bass...

Online Poker
I love it, not ashamed to say it. I can pull a months worth of AS earnings in a couple days, but can also waste a lot of time.

Stupidity1
Giving up on DMOZ.
Someone yanked my listing, could find no suitable category(dont get me started) tried the forum, gave up.
Also every second month XENU says the links are broken becasue they change the attrition code. Ok I'm exaggerating there but it all adds up.
Errors cause by rushing, not checking uploaded files, bad financial management, did I mention drinking?
Stupidity2
I planned on getting traffic then featuring my band(now solo project)on the site. Thought it was smart, indy music/mystuff.
Never thought how it might be viewed as sleazy when i submit to big indie music sites,... oops. Inviting duplicate content probs as well
since they outrank me i will suffer a penalty even though i am the originator.

All in all I know i could have applied myself better, but time seems to fly, now i am scrambling to write content for a few hundred pages as ive really let them stagnate.

Lol... nice rant.

All in a day, week, month, year, two years, etc, I suppose.

Glad someone got a laugh at least. I realized later on the irony of the title, here at a website that pretty well lists where evryones time is going in the title of the thread. :)
