Zope a way forward ?

A new client has asked me produce a MySQL database & php scripting for a recruiment website, that will have the ability for the client to update it directly from their end.

I've been looking into various options and it looks like I have a very steep learning curve getting to grips with php, although the option is there to outsource the database construction and scripting. I would much sooner learn how to do this as it will hopefully be another string to my bow and we could offer more in the way of dynamic websites.

A friend has directed me towards Zope and so far I've only glanced at the site, but would be interested to hear if anyone has used it or has any feedback on it.

Any other suggestions will be equally greatfully accepted!

Sorry Tigger, I thought for sure we had some Zope users around here. There was a big push about two years(?) ago on it, but obviously hasn't caught on too much.

Back to the drawing board, I've been looking around the zope site a little but be honest I'm not putting enough time into this yet hopefully this weekend I can bury myself into zope

Picking up this thread again - anybody with any other experience/recommendations on Zope?

...or for that matter any other solution for running dynamically driven sites on OpenBSD as an alternative to getting stuck into an MS platform...

Anyone installed zope yet? I'm just back from a fresh round of CM research and, for several reasons, zope kept coming up as the answer.

apologies rc, although im not familiar with zope, there is a simpler, though less appetising alternative

a server supporting frontpage extensions can handle such a database, if unfamiliar with the likes of ZOPE. FP can automatically create the editable feature, really leaving you little work to finish it off, just make the DB and know the SQL.

rc, I believe ciml has mentioned ZOPE to me before, though dont know if he has been using it....."python" is the word of the day for me at the mo :)

I want/need editor access with various levels of permissions and other fairly robust CM features. (Though the fact that they give away the app but charge $2000 for a 3-day school ought to be a hint that zope may not be an easy nut to crack.)

I've been using Zope for the past 8 months to manage approximately 40 websites - content, images, forums, etc.

My thoughts on Zope: Easy to use. However, I've not tried any other system. I'm happy to try and answer any questions that you might have about it.

As I understand it, there are somewhat ready-made "models" of zope pre-customized for different generalized tasks. Did you start with the Content Management Framework [cmf.zope.org]?
