Are There Any Available?

Hello guys,

I'm looking for large restraunts database with name, type of restraunt, longitude and lattitude info.

I wonder where can I find one?

Yellow Pages sell listings - though more usefully with postal addresses rather than co-ordinates.

Services like infoUSA provide services like this, but I am not sure if they prohibit republication and the geocoding may be a bit tricky... You need to check with their people

First search this forum for posts about the somewhat-unsettled law regarding directories.

Whether copyright is enforceable or not, I imagine a big operator could make your life miserable in any case. Be aware that most directories "plant" some false information to catch violators.

First thing I would do is see if there is some industry association that will make this available without licensing fees.

There is IH&RA, but I didn't find any databases or XML services on their website.

Did you phone or email IH&RA?

I wouldn't be too hopeful about an online service from them, as their website seems pretty broken. First, it annoyingly resizes to full screen. Then, I get - absolutely nothing - (other than the home page) when I click on just about any link in their menu - using either Firefox or MSIE.

Maybe they can send you a 9-track tape. ;)
