SEO and Copyright

Area seems a minefield, designer owns the initial copyright, the client then gets an SEO in who tweaks the code and changes the text and internal navigation, so does the SEO then "own" the copyright?

It's only a minefield if your contracts allow someone else (designer/seo/anyone-else) to hold the copyrights to your site.

This is one of those things that need to be dealt with BEFORE the work is done.

I would make sure that both of these individuals understand anything they do is "work for hire" which means I own the copyrights. Letting anyone own the copyrights to something with your company name on is a VERY bad idea. Simply make sure your contract has a clause indicating that everything they do is "work for hire" and you should be fine.
