Hi,
I am new to the forum. This is my first question. Please pardon me if this question has been asked before.

I have a website about bicyles. Everything about them such as: specs, reviews and photos. I wonder if i can use manufacturer's images and their text on my website. My friends say should be ok since i actually advertise for them. I like to hear your opinions about it.

Thanks

i have seen lots and lots of websites doing the same , especially on ebay its very normal.

if you would like to be on safer side you would directly email the manufacturer for the copyright issues

Manufacturers usually don't mind, but you aren't totally safe.

Try contacting them about getting one of their press packets where they include pictures of their equipment specifically for media outlets to use.

What BigDave said. It's technically illegal if you're using the manufacturer's photos and text instead of your own. (You can use short quotes from theirs if you label them as quotes.) Although manufacturers usually wouldn't mind, if you ask for the promotional/press material you'll cover all your bases and very possibly get better photos and all than you would otherwise.

As others said above, technically you are not the copyright holder and need permission from the IP-owner (ie, the manufacturer).

Since most manufacturers are happy about free PR, it is definitely worth asking for permission - they might even provide you with professional PR-photos that you wouldn't find anywhere else!
