I'm trying to establish what the copyright status would be on data output by "recommended"-type systems (as opposed to the code for the engine itself.) For example, Amazon's recommendations system for books, et cetera.
Is this data the property of the company using the code [in this example Amazon], or can such things not be copyrighted?
Apologies for the rather open-ended question, just something I've wondered for a while.
