It doesn't take much effort to build a database of the keywords and keyphrases.
By analysing the data it's easy to see patterns developing. It may be that your site generates relatively few referals for one particular page. If you know the facts you might want to beef up the page or even build a new section of the site.
For sections doing well, look at the opportunities for alternative keywords and phrases.
Some of my databases go back three years showing patterns developing, and the reaction to the changes I'm incorporating.
These days I like to study phrases more than individual words as this brings better, qualified traffic.
What methods do you use to help develop better content for your site?
There is a new site I just put up and I don't really know what specific keywords people will be using to find me. I set up an adwords account with some general keywords and I am seeing a lot of clicks coming from very specific keywords. After a week or so I should be able to take this data and build some product specific pages for the more popular specific terms.
