Hello. I'm fairly new to this stuff so bare with me if these are stupid questions. I have a new site that is news, images, etc. about a certain athlete. I'm trying to gather all the daily news about this person and put it on our site. Here is my question:

Let's say there are 5 newspapers that have daily articles about this person. Now I know it's probably not ok to copy these articles onto my site, crediting the person/paper that wrote it, right? How about if I just used the title as my title, then wrote up a little summary articles about the article with a link to the actual newspaper article? What is the best way of going about this?

Thanks.

What's the best way? The way you describe is just fine...

Doing a short summary as you state is a good idea, most papers will generally perceive that as a free ad rather than a copyright violation, both win. Good luck!
