What are the legalities of remixes? I made some remixes of songs of a popular artist, and I would like to put them on a website.

I suggest that before you FTP the remix to your website you should be wearing a rubber suit because an electric bolt of lightning will come down and strike you or if not then a legal team from the artist in question unless you have permission to do a mashup. You should contact the artists people and find out for sure if it is ok.

Base is right. Mashups are big business, and record companies have people whose job is to get money for them. These people have plenty of time to find you and get legal. The exception is the guy who added bass to the White Stripes and got away with it because Jack liked it.
