I wanted to put up a website that archived videos. Can a take videos off of another video archive website and put them directly on to mine or do I have to link them? Is there any problem with just linking them? Though I'd rather take them, what if I take them and put on the site where I took them from?

Welcome to WW.

Check into the copyright status first, whether you link back or not.

The problem would be that you'd be hotlinking to them and using the other site's bandwidth for your own purposes. Some webmasters don't take kindly to this. Some have htaccess code that prevents it in the first place.

Perhaps you should focus on putting unique content on your site... if you're just adding older content, owned by others and already online, it won't get you to the top whether you have DMCA copyright problems or not.
