Forum Moderators: not2easy
We are currently using Cute News to publish news and articles on our very large, very busy, ever growing website but as good as that is, the site and indeed our requirements, have outgrown it considerably.
We've looked at more powerful CMS's like Mambo et al and while many can do parts of the job we need very well, none can do exactly what we need so we are planning to get a custom-built CMS system created that suits the site's needs from a front-end and a back-end perspective. Not to mention the needs and requirements of those that will be writing/maintaining the site - over 20 writers/contributors ranging from home page general news to feature length articles to regular columns.
Now, I have a very good idea in my head as to what we need, but how do I get what is in my head, into the heads of the people who will be creating our custom-built CMS?
This is a critical component of the site and needs to be 100% spot on as the very future of the site will rely on this.
We want to make things easier for the writers without effecting the end result, the interface of the site and the delivery of news which we have perfected manually in conjunction with Cute News.
We could manage that a few months ago as the site was very small, it now contains 30 sections and produces about 8 pieces of content a day though and gets 20,000 plus visitors a day.
We want something that's robust, secure and allows us to build a site not just for today, but for tomorrow as well.
I have no programme experience, well, not nearly enough to speak with programmers on their level so I have to create a plan of what we need, I have to assess what we need, jot that all down or even show them a mock example of each component of this CMS using mocked up screenshots.
I've never done this before, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I look forward to any replies.
Thanks
