Wesbite copied - what can I do about it?

Hi there - I'm after some advice. A webmaster has copied a number of pages from my website. I need to know what I can do about it. I run a small site here in the UK and cannot afford expenses to take this 'cheat' to court. Please advise what steps I should take. Thanks,

i'd contact his ISP and demand for the offending pages to be removed. i have had to do this once, and the ISP got it sorted the same day. they were very helpful. they contacted the site owner who then removed the pages and apologised.

was a lot quicker that i imagined it ever could be.

Most of the time if you send an email to the offender he will voluntarilly remove the coppied material.

If that does not work send a complaint to the hosting company that this domain is hosted with.

How did you find out in the first place that your site was copied?

Hi - thanks for replies, I have managed to 'persuade' this guy to stop using my stuff. But now I have found an eBay merchant who has copied some of my content for his eBay store! I am quite annoyed at this and want to know the best place to register my work in both the UK and US. Are there any government bodies that would allow me to do this?

In the US you can file copyright here:

Registering it with the copyright office won't necessarily stop the copying. You'll still have to track them down. The only advantage of registering with the copyright office is that if someone is making money off your content, and you can prove it, you can actually get monetary damages, rather than just stopping the copying. In 99% of all Internet copying that's not going to do much for you.

eBay has a way to complain about copying. They will take stuff down but you will have to keep after them. Sorry, don't know details but have seen posts about it here.
