could this harm my site if i release articles on other sites

and have them on my site too, first on my site ofcourse and later on article sites and other pages? does google know where the orginal article came from and not penalize the orginal site? any ideas - thanks

No idea about what Google does or thinks but I have several articles on other sites which has been published through those free content services. So I guess that you are on the safe side.
