What can you do about people copying your content and posting it on newsgroups? Can you report it somewhere? I've discovered a bunch of people doing this with my content. And, I've found people posting newsgroup posts on static websites with adsense on them.

What can you do about people copying your content and posting it on newsgroups?

Look at the headers of the post. If there's an "posting IP" listed, you can try a complaint to the abuse@ address at users ISP.

If there's no ip address, perhaps there's a "X-Complaints-Info" address you can try complaining to. Many 'premium' news providers do this as they prefer not to reveal their users ip addresses. If they accept the complaint then they are likely to cancel the offending poster's posting privileges.

Newsgroups really are the 'wild west' of the internet - copyright violations are pretty much par for the course. Are you sure it's worth your while trying to fight this? I'm not defending copyright violation, just commenting on whether this is actually a fight you can win...

It might be more worthwhile going after the websites that mirror the content - at least there you can get a contact address for the owner fairly easily and file a DMCA if necessary.

It's probably not worth my time at this point. I just wondered if there was some way of handling it that I didn't know.

I already got some of the newsgroup mirrors to delete the copies. That was easy.

Thanks for the reply.
