Pop-ups anyone?

Does anyone have any conversion on pop-ups anymore?

I dislike pop-ups and am annoyed by them just like anyone else but I feel more money could be made from the traffic I get. It could also turn the visitor away. I put up some popups on some pages inside my site but not on the home page just to see if anything would happen but have not noticed any sales from that. When a page comes up that refers an advertisement to something similar to what is on the page then I would think it would convert well. Has anyone had any luck with pop-ups or are they only good to use in certain types of sites or places in a site? Maybe the more sophisticated ones that run across the screen?

I dislike popups and tend to avoid sites that have them.

If you have good content on your site, in most cases AdSense seems to be the best program. I can't imagine a scenario in which popups would earn better than AdSense, but I guess it's possible.

It's been so long since I've seen a pop-up that I've near on forgotten they exist. Not that I'm complaining.

Some of the bigger sites like About.com seem to have them so I thought maybe they are effective still?

Just curious if anyone has any positive outcome using them.

I think I am going to take them down on the few page that I have them on.
