Let's say I want to show a pic of what I'm talking about how do I do this without breaking copyrights.
Lets say I get the image from the sony website for example. Is there a process where I can use the photo like . . . .this would be annoying e-mailing sony requesting that I use it . . . or do I provide a link back to the source or what.
I'm really confused. Appreciate any help.

If asking permission seems like too much effort, then you have the option of taking your own picture.
Often times, companies have press kits, or send out press releases with pictures of their product that you can use. But that is not the same as lifting the picture off their website.
Document what you did to try to get permission. If there is a question later, you can show them that you did diligent effort to try to get permission.
I have the official site of a well known product... and I want to include a screenshot. ...do I have to still ask for permission?
If you have the official site of... a well known product... then your official contract with the makers/manufactures/promoters should clearly state what rights you have relative to the usage of official images for marketing, and other, purposes...
Like check your contract.
