Avoiding the duplicate content filter

I want to put several reprinted articles on my site, but I don't want the entire site to get slammed with the duplicate content filter. Is there any way to, say, sequester the duplicate content in its own section or subdomain so that it gets hit, but not the rest of the site?

1. change the content by at least 10%, the more the better.
or
2. password protect the articles section (free password)
or
3. exclude bots from those pages
or
4. write your own freaking content :)

We publish press releases on our site that we know are going to also appear on dozens (if not hundreds) of other sites and suffer no penalty for duplicate content.
