using articles on multiple sites

are there any duplicate content issues?

Im running 2 of my own sites just now.

Site 1 - a regional directory which i wrote several articles (surprise surprise - widget articles ;))

Site 2 - dedicated widget information and advice. I reused my articles as well as writing some more.

Both sites have a lot more content than the same articles on each so is there any chance that ill be penalised?

(the articles on site 1 probably account for 2% of the whole content, and about 15% on site 2, but site 2 is more widget specific).

I dont think ill have a problem as it stands, but what if i use all the articles on both sites?

The articles are relevant to both sites that they appear in.

Any thoughts?

You'll probably be allright, but it could get dodgy if you link these sites to much...

ive linked from my directory site to my new site a couple of times (once in the relevant listings, two grpahic ads in the relevant listings pages and once on the homepage - a kind of a "this is my new site and this is what its for" piece).

I also link from my second site, back to the first - I have my bio included on a page with a link to my other sites, and in each of my articles I end with:

my name
webmaster
my sites links

Also both have a snitz forum and in my signature i have a link to both my sites.

Too much?

Too much?

Who knows? Put it like this: I would be very nervous with or without dupe content with that kind of crosslinking between sites.

Whenever I link my own sites, it's usually a one way thing. If it's two way then it's a very minimal two way thing...

ive just reduced the links on both sites to what i think is necessary (listing in the directory for the new site, site listing on my bio on my new site).

But im keeping my peronal profile on my disc forums the same!

Gotta have principles or these damn search engines will walk right over ya! ;)

cheers nick!

What if two sites were developed with no interlinking in between?

Site 1 - About 400 content pages serving as just an information site or faq site.

Site 2 - Containing almost all those content pages (with all different file names) and a lot of other content and product information.

The content of the two sites is almost identical but header, footer and menu would differ. The two sites have different incoming links and the site 2 has a broader theme than site 1.

Again, probably okay but I'd move one site to a different IP or better still don't do it. Have Site 2 link to the content sections on Site 1.
