Free images?

Does anyone know where to get images so you can put them on your website without worrying about copyright? Like i dont care if i have to have a picture with a watermark of "whoever.com" on there. Thanks in advance!

Um... I don't know exactly what type of images you're looking for. You could also go to tripod.com > Tools > Image Library. They have some there.

Of course I don't know if that's what you want.

Getty images [creative.gettyimages.com] have a large selection of royalty free images - lot's of nice stuff too.

Just a clarification: 'royalty free' doesn't mean that you can use the picture without paying at all.

It means that you pay once to use the picture as many times as you like, rather than paying a royalty fee each time you use the picture.

Good clarification from andye -- You want copyright free, not just royalty free. And if an image isn't copyright free, using it with the watermark or whatever doesn't make it okay--it just lets people know where you copied it from.

My favorite site offers copyright free images, but does require you to have a (fairly inexpensive) membership in order to download them.

leliphent, where are the copyright-free and royalty-free photographs on deviantart? I see a whole lot of photos by individual photographers, but no indication whatsoever that any of these works are free for the taking.

Is there a royalty/copyright-free photography area on the site? If so, where is it?

stock.xchng (http://sxc.hu) has some nice free images. Although some users request that you contact them in advance before using for commercial purposes. All are free.

A good source of free photographic images are the websites of national (Federal? - I'm in the UK) government departments in the USA. If you have a good search on their sites you will find there is usually a photo library tucked away somewhere. Invariably images (often supplied high and low res) are for non-commercial use and (quite rightly) require a credit be given. The point is, they are free.

Some are somewhat specialist. Some are portals leading to larger collections. All offer public domain images or just plain 'free' pics.
