Writing Articles for Links, Worth It?

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has submitted articles to sites like articlecity.com so they can be reprinted on other sites with the proviso that the resource box is included (and live links...). I decided to do some checking up today and found 1 out of 10 sites that had reprinted my articles had bothered to make the link live. I guess one link is better than none, but eh...

Does this seem on par? What are other peoples' thoughts? Do you bother? Have you ever tried emailing the webmasters (and did it result in them adding a link or were you just ignored)?

I guess it just ruffles my feathers that so many people are using the articles to generate Adsense income and can't be bothered to give credit to the author by including a link.

IMHO, making articles for links is only useful if you give them to specific sites, not to places like articlecity.

I have gained some good links from doing what you say..however I am currently evaluating whether or not it is worth it. Many webmasters use the articles and do not make the link live..I send them a really official sounding email that tells them they are using copyrighted material and that in order to legally use it they must make the link clickable. About 75% responded and made the link live. I don't appreciate the time that this takes to police my articles...that is why I am evaluating this technique. I have posted on here about the pros and cons and have received some excellent advice. Hope this helps...good luck.

I really need to ammend what I said above. I stated that I have gained some good links by sharing my articles. Upon further investigation I am not so sure. I was saying that I have gained good links because when I did a ego search on Google I found many of my articles and some of them with "clickable" links. Most of the sites had a PR-0 to PR 5 However..when I do a link:www.mysite....I only have one link that has showed up from sharing my articles. (excluding one of the article sites I submitted to)
I am leaning away from this strategy more and more. Using my unique content on my site seems much better at the moment. Hopefully my articles will get linked to from others that find them useful. I know this will be a slow way but at the moment I feel it will be better quality.
Anyone else have additional thoughts?

Make sure you investigate other articles on the site and how they are linking to the submitters site before submitting. Also, if you are using Google to check for backlinks... you are wasting your time..

Best to use something like:

yourdomain.com -site:www.yourdomain.com

As someone who uses Article city articles on my site I can say I love it. I do make the links live (I just copy the source code) and post it on my site. I did get an email from an angry writer who said that the link in the attribution went to a 404 page. I checked it out and it turns out that the author had a typo in the original article that caused the bad link. I fixed it and emailed him back telling him why the link was bad and that he should fix the source.

You should email and mail a certified letter to them. If you are ignored you can then threaten to have their site shut down if they don't comply. If you are still ignored contact Google and their ISP and shut them down. By getting content off of those article sites you agree to terms of use and they are violating it, as well as your copyright. Contact articlecity, they will know what to do as well.

That will show you sites linking to you or with your domain as text. Substitute "yourdomain.com" for your site in
yourdomain.com -site:www.yourdomain.com and paste it into the search box at Google.
