Someone stealing my images

...and content

I found some referrals to an image on my site so of course I went to check it out and there is a site in the same industry as mine but in Canada who is using an image of mine linking straight to my site. Also the text, although in French, is an almost exact duplicate as mine.

All I have done so far is sent an email to them to remove the images. I also changed the image to read 'This image was stolen from: Company Name'.

Is there anything I can do officially to report them?

Thanks.

Nevermind. They just emailed me back and removed the image.

Russell, the image trick usually works for me too.. a good, simple way of doing it and it usually gets a speedy response.

If they are hotlinking, try this in .htaccess. RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER}!^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER}!^http://(www\.)?mydomain.com/.*$ [NC]
RewriteRule \.(gif¦jpg)$ - [F]

Another wheeze that works quite well is to put a porn image on that file name, then alter your own file to something else for your own site's needs

I had a Chinese site whipping my images, emails were no good, but within a few hours of this treatment they stopped :-)
