I have lately had my forum attacked by a lot of casino, porn, drug etc. spambots. How can I install some sort of image verification, or something like that, that will prevent spammers from automatically joining and posting?

Hello:

I had the same problem with my forum, all I had to do is change a couple of things and the problem was solved:

1. Don't allow guests to post, only registered members. This will also help in increasing the value of your posts, since only people with real interest will post on your forum.

2. On your Forum Configuration enable the image verification upon signup. If you dont have this option on your configuration, then is extremely important that you update to the latest PHPBB, since your forum can be vulnerable to othe kind of attacks.

I agree with Kid.

I changed the forum on my site to registered members only. I didn't really want to do this but the amount of spam was getting ridiculous and very time consuming.

I still get the odd spammer but it is nowhere near as much as it was.

Go to site administration.

Under Forum Admin, click "Permission."

You will be able to change the setting according to your need, e.g. allow registered member/moderator/public/admin to view, post, vote, etc.

Or download the latest version of phpBB 2.020. The new version default setting disallow guest from posting. You need to register in order to post.
