How did Facebook Knock Bebo for Six in UK market?

I noticed when doing an analysis of the growth of Facebook and Bebo on Google insights.... Bebo fell off a cliff back in 2008 in the UK, right at the time when facebook had an inflection point - knocking Bebo down a hill from there on.

Anyone know how facebook managed to do that in UK? Apparently they went "agressive" in 2008. I would be interested to understand what tactics they had to wipe out Bebo at that particular point in time given the fact Bebo had a very strong foothold with UK schools and colleges already...

Thanks

By getting mentioned on the BBC every day for 6 months. Seriously. There was a point when every other story on the BBC news seemed to be about Facebook.

i agree with Rosalind

and would also ditto it re Twitter - it is constantly mentioned on the radio - you couldn't pay for the amount of mentions it gets.

[i know that you can't advertise on the bbc - not officially anyway]

Just found this.... Words from Peter Thiel. I too am a great believer that the success is mostly attributed to the person driving it. I like the fact that he takes bold moves (even though they have got him into trouble several times) - where most would hesitate or procrastinate.

"Facebook’s CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg is a product visionary that resembles Apple CEO Steve Jobs. As long as Zuckerberg stays at Facebook, the company will be about building new products."

bebo also had major problems in that it had become a haven for on line teenage and pre teen age bullying for the UK as a whole ..and inter sectarian hate speech in northern Ireland and Scotland.
