Has facebook won the ultimate internet battle ?

The more I think of it, the more I think facebook won the ultimate internet battle.
My thought reinforced after the pathetic social attempt of google with buzz. Why would I want to socialize outside of facebook ? All my friends and family are in already. Not half of them use gmail / buzz.

I believe entire internet will get into facebook: one login, all sites will be kind of widget / add ons / page / whatever inside facebook. All your friends are already there, they have 400 millions user and growing everyday, who will ever think seriously of creating a significant other social network when all the work of gathering people is already done ?
All the futures amazons and ebays will be built in facebook, or at least, be seriously interconnected with it.

They won the absolute battle of internet and this is why they are worth 15 billions.

What do you think ? I can't think of future internet outside of facebook except for some very specific service.

Rival online reptiles ( search engines, goomytwitfacebuzzhoobingsoftpplezonwhatever ) fighting each other for turf ( and ripping each others corporate and staistical throats out ..:) keeping each other too busy to bother about us ;) is much better for us small mammals ..

I want them all to lose ..bloodily..:)

Why would I want to socialize outside of facebook ?

I use FB to connect with friends and family, but I use LinkedIn to connect with business associates. There is a little overlap, but not much.

I don't go to FB to search- I use Google or rarely Yahoo or Bing.

I do minimal advertising on FB- it still lacks the reach/maturity of AdWords. Where's FB's AdSense killer application (although I'd love to see/try it).

And I still spend more time at WW than FB! :)

You may have been a member since 2003 however you obviously know very little about what has been happening on the Net since its inception.

I deactivated my FB months ago. Couldn't stand it anymore. Bombarded with friend requests from people I barely knew. Constant flow of updates regarding information about people's lives I didn't really want to know. I was wasting my mife away playing games and reading about other people's lives.

There was a few days of withdrawl. But once I got past that my life has been much better.

Interesting thing is I am not alone. I talk to and read more and more about folks leaving Fb. Most claiming it is just too much info and too time consuming. They wanted their lives back.

I think this is the Achiles heel of FB. They are trying to take over everyones entire lifestyle. It may come back to bite them.

I think I have FB under control - I block all game and useless tool updates and go through my friends list on a monthly basis to weed out the ones that I approve too quickly etc...

I think the internet battle is still ongoing - and will be for a few years to come. This year's going to be an interesting one though :)

There are reasons we all watch different TV channels, whadya know, we might all like different social networks too :)
