How would I go about implementing giving a twitter discount code or link if the person becomes a twitter follower?

I do this with Facebook and there has been great success. Any ideas?

Different strokes for folks, as always, but I don't offer discounts to any but mega-repeat customers. I certainly won't offer discounts to face or twits or Obama-fans just because they are face, twits or ... you get the idea. Period. Chose your discounts with care. As for Twitter, recall the 140 character limitation... makes it tough to do biz in such a narrow venue.

Depends on the nature of your business (online / offline), as part of the check out page ask for their twitter username and see if that appears in your list of followers.

However, you have to be careful that people just pretend to be someone your twitter page in order to get a discount.

Other Ideas:

1) Use the background image on your twitter profile and put a promo code people can use

2) Tweet promo codes / urls to members
