Twitter DATA LOSS for many users.

I see more and more people announcing that suddenly all of their old public messages (everything older than a few days/weeks that is) going right back to their first day, have suddenly been removed from Twitter.

Twitter have not made any announcements or responded to any questions (any many people have been asking). This probem has been ongoing for at least three weeks (or, at least, that is when I first became aware of it).

There's been a lot of talk about messed up follower counts and the like, but this post is about the loss of messages.

Oh nos! What ever will we do without our past twitter messages? How will I know which movie Stacie saw or which cereals Bryan was trying to decide from at the supermarket?

Twitter seems to have ongoing issues with scalability and reliability, not to mention having to fend off DDOS attacks.

I think most people treat tweets (say THAT fast 10 times!) as ephemeral, though I've occasionally tried to hunt down a cool resource that I recall hearing about in a buddy's tweet.

Thanks for your sarcasm, Stoutfiles, but actually there's a few links that I'd like to revisit again in those messages, bookmarked there rather than in my browser.

OK. Twitter staff had posted about this elsewhere in their support area, several weeks before; not on the 'status' page.

A fix went in nearly a week ago, and they say it should take a week or so for it to correct all of the accounts with missing stuff...
