I need a portal so I can basically post news articles and have people comment, any use geeklog? Looks simple, that what i need, somethign where I don't need to have any programming experience.

THanks.

Judging by the silence, perhaps not. Anyone?

I haven't used it myself, but I know of at least one site based on Geeklog which handles some very heavy traffic (it's regularly linked to from Slashdot) and hundreds of comments per article with ease. Unfortunately, I can't comment on how easy it is to configure and use, but it would certainly be worth putting through an evaluation to see if it meets your needs.

I've used Geeklog for a couple of years and been happy with it. Have not used the whole feature set as I have kept things pretty simple.

It's not that hard to install. Just read carefully the whole install documentation and config.php :)

For comments it comes with MT-Blacklist support to combat spam.

It has a powerful user management/permission system if you have several people posting content. Again I haven't needed these that much.

Depending on theme/layout, it produces quite good search engine friendly pages.

Comparing to other similar CMS engines, my impression is, it sort of resembles Debian linux distibution. Stable and secure but not with the latest bells and whistles.

I just started GeekLog on my system. I haven't figured out all of the possibilities with it yet, but I'll post something here as soon as I learn some more about it.

Just wanted to answer because so few people replied. If anyone knows of a better system, let me know. I'm loking for something that's highly customizable without a ton of PHP work.
