mod_gzip header problem

I have installed mod_gzip on my apache server. And as of this writing i looked into my mod_gzip logfile and found that out of 9468 requests 1707 were NO_ACCEPT_ENCODING denies and 7641 were EXCLUDED (images mostly, I have them excluded in mod_gzip.conf) and the rest were 404's and the like. What I am wondering is this normal behaviour? I would think more browser's would accept the encoding type. I know mine does and it says NO_ACCEPT_ENCODING for me. I think there may be something hacking up the request header before it gets to the mod_gzip. If you know something that does this please let me know. I have the standard SSL, PHP, Cold Fusion setup.

mod_gzip's default settings excludes images, which is a very good idea because you cannot compress a gif or jpeg any futher and its a waste of cpu time...

Also some browsers like Safari do not support gzip compression (IE, Mozilla and Opera do however).

On the contrary, Safari does support gzipped files. I did a tail on my access_log to check and it shows that Safari is getting the compressed document. Just a heads up!
