HTTPS on user request

Hi

A recent string of hackings has made me seriously consider the SSL option for my site. So how do I go about it?

I have my site hosted by a top hosting company and they would probaly set it up for me. But I would like to know the complete procedure too as I want to also test this on my developer environment. Somewhere mod-ssl rings a bell, but what to do with it?

Also how can I use "verisign" for for https authentication?
