somehow in poking and prodding around in my apache2 server, setting up virtual hosts and aliases and anything else that looked fun to me, i have inadvertantly enable ssl on my main web page... it can only be accessed with https:// and i had to rename the index to index.shtml even to show up. i don't want it to be this way, but i can't find anyplace where it looks like ssl has been enabled, so i can't shut it off.... there are several places where it looks like it would be the place to enable or disable it, but they are not enabled....

hmmmm?

That's SSI, not SSL. But https: is definitely SSL...

Do you have a backup of httpd.conf?
