help using mod_rewrite

Hello,
I want to use the mod_rewrite, but i am not getting success to run the php page on Apache.
First i stoped the IIS and have installed Apache in c: it is appeared as c:/programe files/www/Apache2.
But i have installed php in c:/php
I have developed a website and kept in folder c:/inetpub/wwwroot/asifarif/index.php, now how i will run this page using Apache and where i should kept my
website folder, the IIS is still stop.
I want to change the index.php to index.html when appeared. Or how i can change all the page's extension .php to .html.
I will b very thankful to you for this.

There is program for visual configuring of apach, if does not help, send message here I will tell how to configure it.

It is not very ckear, why do you want .php rename to .html. Do you want .html files execute by php mashine?
