Router configuration / port forwarding.

This is probably really obvious..

Hi all,

First of all, I'm not an experienced Apache user, nor someone comfortable around routers. That said, I'm still technically competant and I learn fast. :p

I've installed a new router (SpeedStream 6520) and I've found that the server I had been running no longer works (OpenSA Apache 2.0.44 on Win2K SP4). It worked on this very same computer with a slightly older modem, though I don't know how that modem was configured.

Router's local IP: 192.168.2.1
Server machine's IP: 192.168.2.2

I'm not a router professional, but am I right to assume that just by doing some port-forwarding on TCP/UDP port 80 to local IP 192.168.2.2, someone accessing my router's external IP will hit my server?

That's what I *think* I should do, though it does not work. It hits my router's admin page instead. It ignores the forwarding request, yet everything in the router's configuration suggests that it's enabled. It's dead-simple.

Have I done the right steps with the port-forwarding?

cloudscapes,

Welcome to WebmasterWorld!

Since your server worked before, it's not likely to have anything to do with Apache. I'd suggest reviewing the top results of this search [google.com] to see if you've missed a step in configuring your 6520.

It should work after you have port-fowarded external TCP port 80 to internal or LAN port 80 for IP address 192.68.2.2.

Can you load your server's webpage from another PC on the internal LAN?

Hi guys,

Thanks WebWalla for the idea. I had indeed properly configured the port forwarding on the modem, but was only checking inside the network. It seems with this model, I cannot access the server unless I am outside the router, unlike the older model.

Thanks!
