.htaccess - anyone knows how to .

making filename .htaccess

Im having problem with this .htaccess if u know this, pls help ..
heres the prob:
u need to make the .htaccess in notepad and u should make it .htaccess ,, but when i save it as .htaccess ..the file name becomes .htaccess.txt so how do i remove the .txt to make it .htaccess only? where can i edit it? how do i change it? help please.. thanks

If you already have the file created you can simply upload it to your website then rename the file on the server. right click the file and rename to .htaccess

When saving a file in notepad you can remove the * from the file name and it will prevent it adding the .txt part.

another problem is when i tried to upload .htaccess file, it says that the .htaccess file is invalid.. so u can only use .htaccess if you have your own domain. im using free account in bravenet.. too bad. aside from htaccess, what other password protector is safe to use?
