Using Webalizer with Apache RotateLogs

How do I get Webalizer with Apache RotateLogs to work properly?

Hi everyone,

I tried to Google this question, and since I am at a loss of experience with achieving what I am trying to achieve, I've turned to the intelligent and experienced people of WebmasterWorld.

I'm trying to find a way to using Webalizer with Apache Rotate Logs. What I want to do is set up a nightly cronjob that will run webalizer for that specific day and post the results to a file and append the date to the filename.

I'm positive I'm not the only one to request something like this, mainly because I know that others like myself have huge logfiles.

Since these log files can become enormous, I also wanted to set up a cronjob that would delete all log files older than 7 days.

Am I asking too much? Is this possible? Am I going about it all wrong?

Thanks in advance!

correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Webalizer already does that. The /stats/ directory containts html files that were built using the data from apache logs. Deleting those logs later would not effect the pages already made by webalizer. Just make sure you dont create the current logs webalzier needs to build the next report.

Might check into Awstats too, i use it now instead of webalizer and find it much more useful, and much much much more accurate.
