Ok, I'm non-technical but just need a simple answer before speaking with my hosting company.

We have an old site done in pretty basic html that performs well, however, as moving to https seems to be a hot topic, I wanted to know if we can do this. Our pages look something like:

http://www.example.com/widgets.html

Would they then just become

[example.com...]

I do realise that the correct redirecting needs to be in place, but just wanted to get some feedback first.

Thanks

yip, you'll need to purchase a dedicated IP address as well (not expensive). Do your redirects too.

You might want to check on the possible downside issues caused by moving a site to https - it can cause a slowdown as Google crawls and re-evaluates the "new" site. It affects AdSense earnings for many also. There are several discussions here about the overall situation: [webmasterworld.com...] and [webmasterworld.com...] are just a few..
