the idear is to have all possible subdomain redirected to the same apache virtual domain, then whit apache rewriterules to change this subdomain into a variables.
i dont have any problem whit the rewrite rules part.
(i already know that i will have a problem not http 1.1 not compliant "things", like browser if there is still some out there.)
my problem is to create a "wildcard" subdomain, curently 1&1 (http://1and1.com) is handlind our DNS.
like every web DNS interface its TOTALY ineficient, because of attempt to make it more user friendly. So i was not able to create a wildcard subdomain. I am not shure if they did it on purpuse.
Q1 - is it normal for a DNS service to prevent you from creating a wildcard subdomain?
Q1.5 - i beleive my best choice is to have this wilcard subdomain not handled by my own server and leave it on 1and1 am i right?
Q2 - do you know a registrat that have a flexible interface?
Q4 - we already have over 300 000 users and we expect to 1 million before the end of the year, do you see a problem having 300 000 to 1 million subdomain handled by a wildcard subdomain in BIND?
Q5 - Under linux i beleive bind is the best choice, am i right?
Q6 - what kind of "power" do i need to handle this? i bleive not that mutch.
Q7 - i had found some discution on the internet where some people where saying that wilcard subdomains require a lot of power .... i dont beleive in it ami right?
Q8 - is there still some "tings" that are not http 1.0 compliant? (NOT http 1.1?)
