Ok this is my big problem, when i view a page like

[<mny-ip...]

(where test.txt is in my www folder in my php area - run of the server)

I can see the page as normal, but when i give the link to other people to view, they get 'Page not found'.

someone has suggested it might be settings in my apache which are stopping the page from acting as a webserver which means other people cant see it.

This is why i just joined this forum to ask, please can someone help me fix this problem, i am desperate

Psycho,

Welcome to WebmasterWorld!

Just to clarify: What version of Apache server have you installed on your machine?

this is what i have - WAMP server

WAMP5 automatically configures them to work together, wherever you install them on your local drive.
These softwares are installed :

Apache 1.3.x.
PHP 5.x.x
MySQL 4.x.x
PHPmyadmin
SQLitemanager
Wampserver service manager

This could any of a number of things, assuming that you can request the page via http with a browser and Apache serves it to you locally.

First suspect: It could be your ISP or your firewall or router blocking incoming connections on port 80. Many ISPs do not allow customers to run servers, becaue their networks are configured to handle small upstream traffic (click a link) and large downstream traffic (receive a Web page). Running a server reverses these traffic profiles and can disrupt their network 'tuning'.

I agree with Jim, sounds more like a Router issue. Either that, or a IP Address issue.

Make sure you are not giving your friends an IP Address of 192.168.xx.xx.

How are you managing to view the pages? Seriously, how are you getting there (browsing-wise)?

What are you giving your friends or viewers with respect to my last question?

Do you understand that you need to have a Resistered Domain, a Dynamic Domain (such as no-ip.com), or you have to provide them the IP Adrress that is assigned from your ISP.

How do you connect to the Internet? [Standard Modem, xDSL, Cable, or what]?
