I don't know about "should". But it certainly gives me the willies, even though I know many people hereabouts do something of the kind.

A very similar trap was posted here in WWF several years ago. I had to dig, but found the URL, don't know if it would link to the content today or not: at forum88/4242.htm

Hm, that's interesting. If you say /forum88/ alone, it redirects to /php/ (the current name of the forum), but if you mix an old-style directory name with a recent post number-- or vice versa-- it's a 404.
