Hi

Im trying to set up a new domain.

I parked www.example.com in a existing server, when i go to www.example.com it takes me here..
http://www.example.com/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi

But if i put in www.example.com/index.html the page comes up without the under constuction image..

Im using cpanel with Apache: HTTP Server

Thank you for any help..

welcome to WebmasterWorld, tom3567!

there are many ways to explain this but the specifics depend on your particular configuration.
for example, your server might be configured to use one of several possible default directory index documents and perhaps one of them is an index.php script that gets fired if the index.html file doesn't exist and perhaps that script sends a response that causes a redirect to the cgi script.

try installing the Live HTTP Headers add-=on for firefox and that will show you the status response chain and all request and response headers.

what is your question?

You left out one kinda crucial detail: Does that index.html page really, physically exist?

Have you got an htaccess file yet? (Either your own, or boilerplate supplied by the host.) Anything relevant there?

Shared hosting, right? You did say cpanel.
