My website currently appears by IP address in the SERPs. I've now modified the htacess to redirect to the domain name. Now what do I need to do to prevent the IP address from appearing in the SERPs? - ie I need the SERPs to show

www.mydomain.com/aaa.htm

instead of

11.222.33.444/aaa.htm

It happens only in the Google SERPs, so I just need to take care of that.

TIA,

If you've implemeted a redirect, then check it here [webmasterworld.com] to be sure you're getting a 301-Moved Permanently response to requests for the IP address URLs.

Then do a search on various engines for your site by IP address, and ask anyone who links to you by IP to change their link to use the domain name instead.

Then it's just a matter of waiting for the engines to sort it out. Maybe a couple of months.
