Using a GoDaddy domain with my website hosted on and Apache server?.

I have a website hosted via Apache, and I want to use a custom domain.

So, I have created a website, and I have it hosted via an Apache server (I have XAMPP installed). However, I don't want to have to give out my IP to everyone, so I have bought a domain from GoDaddy at a previous date, before I started hosting my own sites. The thing is, I don't know how to set it up so that when someone goes to [artfulme.net ] it redirects them to my website...

I'm sorry if this thread has been posted in the wrong category, I couldn't find anywhere else that seemed to fit more...

welcome to WebmasterWorld, jmcneil!

you have to go into your (godaddy) registrar account and specify your domain name servers and then configure your domain name servers to associate hostnames to server IP addresses.

the specifics depend on your registrar's and your DNS provider's user interface.

If you're renting hosting space somewhere then the above instructions are good.

If you are trying to serve the site from your PC at home, be aware that your ISP will have configured your connection for large download, small upload from your end.

Serving a website requires the exact opposite profile, and your activity will likely be flagged up very quickly. You may be in breach of your ISPs rules.

Due to security risks XAMPP isn't recommended for production servers, and neither is Windows XP etc. Be very careful.
