We're having issues where google's indexing links on our site with https for some reason and we can't figure it out why

Does anyone know how to resolve this?

I'm trying to figure out how we can redirect all https queries to go to http

What solutions have you tried so far? Do you need to use https on any specific parts of the site?

Well when we tried to enable https it seems like all traffic went to https.

We don't need https on any parts of the site.

Only on a subdomain that's hosted somewhere else:
shop.domainname.com

If you have admin access, then disable the https port entirely.

If not, then put a redirect into the root directory for the HTTPS 'side' of the site.

If the HTTP and HTTPS sides of the site both share the same directory space, then a RewriteRule could be used in example.com/.htaccess:

RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} =443
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://example.com/$1 [R=301,L]

I assume that you already have other working rewriterules in your .htaccess file. If not, then please so state.

This is actually what we inserted instead and it's working so far in terms of telling Google to stop indexing those links and index the http versions instead

Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} ^443$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} =on
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ [domainname.com...] [R=301,L]
