Help me stop unwanted traffic (not referrer or IP based)

Hi Folks.

have a weird one here.

I own mydomain.com - the site has been running for many years and draws reasonable traffic.

Over the last few days, I've been seeing huge amounts of traffic which google analytics is showing as being under the hostname

mydomain.NET

somehow, someone is delivering my site and my content from this second domain, causing issues with my traffic reporting for advertisers, and massively increasing my bandwidth uses (all the traffic form this domain bounces on the page they land on - it's useless to me.)

So, how is this being done (my server is not set up with mydomain.NET in it's vhosts) and how the heck do I stop it!

Check the IP address of the other site. If it is hosted elsewhere you'll need to send a takedown notice to the other hosting service.

If the requests do resolve to your hosting, a few lines of .htaccess code will either block all those requests or redirect them to the correct domain name for your site.

In the meantime, set up filters and profiles in your analytics to record only visits for your domain and for visits that are NOT to your domain. The latter profile will show how many people are looking at your site in search engine cached pages and alternative domains, whether copied sites, server configuration errors or whatever.
